This is Amy Miller and here is my permission to blog letter. A word doc can be downloaded at my blog at http://almiller.edublogs.org

Dear parent or guardian:

In my classroom I am going to have a blog set up for you and your child to go to and look at the newsletter that I put up, you will also be able to look at photos of the students and what we are doing in the classroom, and you will be able to talk to other parents or ask me questions and I will reply to them.

A blog is a special type of web page that can be created and easily updated using a web browser. Each entry has its own date stamp. Each entry has a comments section where visitors to the blog may leave comments for me or the students.

How it works

I will post a newsletter when we change units, which will be about every couple of weeks at the most. I will also post pictures of the students at work in the class or when we take field trips. I encourage you to read the newsletters and look at the photos, or whatever else I post, with your child and they can tell you about the pictures or more about what we are doing in the classroom. It is a good way to get everyone talking and informed.

Security

This blog is designed to minimize risk to your child. The only personally identifying information included in the blog will be their first name. There will be no mention of our school name or our location. The only people that are able to look at the blog will be those who are invited by email.

Permission

Before your child may use or look at the blog, I am asking for you and your child to discuss and sign the following form. Please return the form to me. But since this blog is mainly for the parents/guardians the students will not be doing much or at all of any blogging. The students are expected to use the blog appropriately and to make sure that no identifying information is posted.

Blogging Terms and Conditions

1. Students who are using blogs are expected to act safely by keeping personal information out of their posts. You agree to not post or give out your family name, password, user name, e-mail address, home address, school name, city, country or other information that could help someone locate or contact you in person. You may share your interests, ideas, questions and answers and preferences.

2. Students using blogs agree to not share their user name or password with anyone besides their teacher and parents. You agree to never log in as another student.

3. Students or parents using blogs are expected to treat blogspaces as classroom spaces. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for the blog. While I encourage you to engage in debate and/or conversation with other bloggers, I also expect that you will conduct yourself in a manner reflective of a representative of this school.

4. This blog is a vehicle for sharing about our classroom and what we are doing. Most visitors to the blog who leave comments should leave respectful, helpful messages. If a comment is inappropriate or rude, you will be blocked from seeing the blog anymore.

5. Parents or students who do not abide by these terms and conditions may lose their opportunity to take part in this blog.

I have read and understood these blogging terms and conditions. I agree to uphold them.

Did we compile a list of video games that each person was going to do? And if our game is not currently on a PC platform but has a PC version can we use it? I was just going to bring in my x-box 360 and hook it up to the projector.

Julie's spot is here. The site is established but not "in use" for the classroom yet. We use a different site that I do not have permission to access away from school.
